Wollongong Mustangs Seeking Head Coach

Due to unforseen circumstances, the Wollongong Mustangs are in the urgent need of a Head Coach for the 2009 season. The applicant MUST BE a level 2 accredited coach, with a strong desire for improving the skill level of the players that they will be coaching. The Wollongong Mustangs currently train at the Wollongong TAFE 2 days a week, so the successful applicant will be expected to attend training down at Wollongong on these training nights.

If you are interested in applying, please contact Greg, or Mitch, on the details below.

Quarterback Clinic

I’m running my QB clinic on Sunday June 21st, at 2:30pm at Sydney Uni for any QBs to come along. This is the second year I am running it and four teams were present last year. The feedback I received was very positive.

The two hour session will include:

  • Initial stance
  • Grip
  • Dropback – working the five step drop, but incorporating principles for shotgun etc
  • Setup
  • Throwing / delivering the football
  • Rollouts
  • Throwing basic routes

My approach is to work from the ground up. It’s also to tailor the basics of throwing to each individual, as every QB has different physical attributes and mechanics.

By the end of the session the QB should have a better understanding of the basics of passing the football. Following the clinic I will send through a written review of strengths and areas to work on.

So that coaches know what has been taught, they are also welcome to attend and observe.

Please let me know if you are interested. I aim to have between 10-12 participants. I already have four spots filled. This is an ideal clinic for your starter, potential backup or Colts player. We’ll provide everything and all we ask is for a $10 donation for each participant which will be put toward the purchase of coaching materials.

Please email me if you have any questions.

Hope to see you there,

Coach Stephen Dunne

Blake Muir takes on US High School best at Scouting Combine

BLAKE WITH PIAA FOUNDER DORIS SULLIVAN AND COACH PETER UPHAM

BLAKE WITH PIAA FOUNDER DORIS SULLIVAN AND COACH PETER UPHAM

The 2009 Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance (PIAA) Combine on May 30th at Saint Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawai’i, saw Australian Gridiron player, Blake Muir, of the Sutherland Seahawks in NSW, compete along side the best Hawaiian high school football players; a show case of talent all striving to be noticed by college recruiting coaches.

PIAA is a non-profit organization, sponsored in part by the NFL, that provides recruiting services to primarily Hawaiian based high school athletes in their goal of achieving a scholarship offer, particularly for football, but for other sports as well. PIAA has existed since 2001 and this year was their 8th Combine.

Hawai’i is a state known for producing some of the best football talent in the country. Last year’s consensus #1 recruit in the nation was Punahou Linebacker Manti Te’o, who signed a letter of intent with Notre Dame.

Blake, only started training and playing Gridiron in mid 2008, and was immediately identified as a talented prospect by Sutherland Seahawks Head Coach Peter Upham, who had prepared current University of Hawai’i Offensive Lineman Adrian Thomas for his career in a Division One college program.
