In the second round of the gridiron NSW competition, pirates 40 defeated Sharks 2

Sydney Uni lions 48 defeated Bondi raiders 12

Game 3 had the gators playing the mustangs. Mustangs had to tap out middle of the 3rd quarter for s final score UTS 58 Mustangs 0

Game 4 – outlaws were too tough for the predators, final score 58 – 10

Round one of the GNSW Division one season went off with bang this week (after some annoying venue problems) with all teams (except the Outlaws who were on the bye) playing at the new League venue.

There were mixed results and a few surprises as all the teams looked for a positive start to the 2010 comp.

In the first game, The tippers were edging the raiders in front of the Predators and this game definately show how close they were, with a half time score of 20 all.

The raiders managed to edge ahead though late in the game and held on to their 1 td lead against a determined predator outfit finishing the game with the win 27 – 20

In game two of the round the Seahawks were matched up against the Pirates. The tippers haven’t been giving the hawks much of a chance all week, but it seems that they weren’t reading the same blogs as they set about dominating the pirates from the opening kickoff.

The pirates, who to looked to have an advantage in both team numbers and size never seemed to get out of 1st gear on Saturday and will be very disappointed with their start.

Seahawks showed that they have built on last years playoff berth and ran away with this one 24 – 8

In game 3 we hade the debutante sharks facing last years Waratah bowl runners up UTS in their first game in the GNSW competition.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, UTS came out firing and wouldn’t let’s the sharks get into any type of rhythm on O or D.

The UTS defense showed to be very stingy, with 3 interceptions for the game, one of which was a pick 6.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the central coast boys, they were competitive in spurts and showed they have a food nucleus and just need a few more games at this level find their feet.

UTS ran away with this one 62 – 0

In the final game on the round the Mustangs re-entering the competition after a year off found themselves in a similar situation as the Sharks facing off against the 2009 champion lions.

The Lions started up right where they left off with a TD on the 2nd play of the game and didn’t take their foot off the pedal for the rest if the game.

The mustangs fought hard all game but with the lack of sideline coaching staff and large number if rookies, where always going to be fighting an uphill battle.

Sydney Uni continued the high scoring Uni trend in this one, finishing with the second shut out of the round
. Final score Lions 73 Mustangs 0

The Lions continued the offensive feeding frenzy started in game 3 with another massive win over the Mustangs, also chalking up the second shutout of the round.

The mustangs, returning to the GNSW competition after a year out of the competition just couldnt keep up with the Lions potent Defense and high powered offense.
