HALL OF FAME

The purpose of the Gridiron New South Wales Hall of Fame is to recognise those outstanding individuals who have had and who may continue to have a positive role in the development of the sport of American Football (Gridiron) in New South Wales.

Induction into the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame is the highest form of thanks that the Gridiron NSW members can give to a person for their contribution to the sport.

Criteria

To be eligible to be elected to the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame a person

  • Must have had a positive effect on the development of the sport in New South Wales;
  • Must have had an effect upon the entire Gridiron NSW community;
  • Must have been involved for a significant period of time;
  • Must have given unselfishly of their time to the sport where they could; and
  • Must have promoted the sport to the betterment of the sport.
Categories

The categories to which people may be nominated are from all aspects of the sport in New South Wales, that is

  • Players;
  • Coaches;
  • Officials;
  • Administrators and Managers;
  • Team Support Personnel; and
  • Friends of the Sport.

All persons in the above categories (except Players) may be nominated and elected whilst still active or after their retirement. If a player, they must be:

  • inactive from playing for a period of two years;
  • are not to resume playing after election to the Hall of Fame;
  • may be taking another active role in the sport
Nominations

In order to nominate a person (the Nominee) for the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame the Nomination Form must be completed and proposed and seconded by two people (not the Nominee) who are members of the Gridiron NSW or its affiliated clubs and associations.

Nominations must:

  • Include a description explaining how the person nominated meets the criteria described above.
  • Nominate two Referees who can attest to the Nominee’s credentials
  • Nominate which Category the Nominee belongs to.

The nomination should not be discussed with the Nominee by the proposer or seconder. The Hall of Fame Committee will discuss the nomination with the Nominee when appropriate.

The Nomination Form when completed is to be mailed or emailed to the Gridiron Hall of Fame Committee.

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will accept nominations at any time of year but elections will only be made once a year. All nominations received will be treated in confidence.

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee is not to canvas for Nominees generally or in any particular category. The Gridiron NSW Committee may ask for nominations for the Hall of Fame.

Election to the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will conduct the election process in confidence and without prejudice.

The Election Timetable will be:

  • Nominations Close for that year – 1 August
  • Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee meets to consider nominations by 1 October
  • Inductees will be announced – Division 1 Grand Final or League Presentation

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will:

  • assess the nominations received and determine which of the Nominees should be inducted into the Hall of Fame;
  • reserve the right to reject scurrilous or mischievous nominations;
  • assess the Nominees based upon the Nomination Form and interviews / statements by the Referees onlu. Personal submissions by any party will not be accpeted;
  • elct only one person in each catorgory per year. It is not required to have an inductee in each category each year, if
    • the Nominess do not meet the admission criteria, or
    • there are no Nominees in a particular category

Each Nominee will be assigned to a Committee member who will be responsible for putting forward the case for the Nominee.

Case papers for each Nominee are to be considered in confidence and documents received, even after election, will remain confidential.

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will conduct a simple vote with a casting vote by the Committee Chairman (if required) to elect a Nominee.

Before announcement of a successful nomination, the Committee Chairman is to discuss and agree on the induction with the Nominee as some people may be uncomfortable with this type of recognition.

Composition of the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee

It is considered an honour to sit on the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee.

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will consist of the following:

  • President – President Gridiron NSW
  • Player Representative (nominated by Clubs)
  • Coaches Representative (nominated by the NSW State Coaching Director)
  • Officials Representative (nominated by NSWGOA)
  • Administrators / Support / Friends Representative (nominated by Gridiron NSW Executive)

Except for the President, these persons once nominated will sit in perpetuity or until they wish to resign from the Committee when they will be replaced by the nominating body.

The members of the Committee will select a Secretary annually. The Secretary will keep records of all nominations.

Each member of the Gridiron Hall of Fame Committee is to have the following background:

  • A minimum of five years involvement in the sport
  • Eligible for or members of the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame
Recognition

The Gridiron Hall of Fame Committee will prepare a biographic document describing the person and why they have been inducted into the Hall of Fame

The Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame Committee will determine the appropriate personal recognition for each Member of the Hall of Fame in consultation with Gridiron NSW.

All members of the Gridiron Hall of Fame will be recognised on the Gridiron NSW web site.
